A Day at IPB University Dramaga Campus
On our fifteenth day in Indonesia, we visited one of the most remarkable places in our entire trip so far—the Dramaga Campus of IPB University, which is not only the main campus but also the largest. Spread across a vast area of greenery, academic buildings, and research facilities, the campus felt more like a small city dedicated entirely to education, innovation, and sustainability.
Our Indonesian friends from IPBU welcomed us with their usual warmth and enthusiasm, acting as our tour guides for the day. As we walked through the wide, tree-lined roads, they shared interesting facts and stories about their university life. We were amazed by how diverse and comprehensive the academic programs are—from agriculture, forestry, and veterinary medicine to business, engineering, and social sciences. It became clear that IPB University isn’t just a center for agricultural studies; it’s a multidisciplinary institution with a strong emphasis on research, community service, and global impact.
We also got to visit several facilities and laboratories, each equipped with modern tools and specialized equipment used in everything from crop breeding to food science, animal health, and biotechnology. Seeing these resources up close made us think—“What if we enrolled here for our master’s degree?” The idea didn’t seem so far-fetched. The environment was welcoming, the academic offerings were impressive, and the sense of purpose that surrounded the campus was truly inspiring.
After the tour, our day took an even more heartwarming turn. We were invited to a special lunch at the home of Miss Anis, one of the kind and generous faculty members at IPBU. Her family welcomed us with open arms, and the atmosphere was so warm and familiar, it felt like coming home after a long journey.
We shared a delicious meal together, sitting side by side with our Indonesian friends, laughing and exchanging stories. Over flavorful local dishes, we continued learning about Indonesian customs, values, and everyday life. The conversations were full of curiosity, understanding, and joy—moments that reminded us how cultural exchange is not just about academic knowledge, but about human connection.
Day 15 left us reflecting on the possibilities ahead—new academic paths, deeper friendships, and a greater appreciation for the kindness and hospitality we’ve been shown throughout this journey. It was a day of learning, laughter, and feeling at home—even in a place miles away from our own.
